Office of Minority Health
The Memorial Office of Minority Health implements in a culturally appropriate manner health education and health-related services that improve the health status of the minority population.
Our services include:
- Sickle cell education & screening
- Health education workshops
- Health fairs
- Prostate health screening
- Diabetes and cholesterol screening
- Hoosier Healthwise enrollment
- Prenatal care education
The Office of Minority Health also:
- Provides care coordination and referrals to families and individuals as needed.
- Works with other health care providers and agencies to raise awareness of minority health needs.
- Provides a community-based blood pressure monitoring program.
- Supports other agencies by providing CPR training.
- Provides education, screenings, referrals, counseling, and care coordination for all individuals with sickle cell disease and trait throughout Elkhart, LaPorte, and St. Joseph Counties.
- Provides all follow-up for babies born with abnormal hemoglobin throughout North Central Indiana hospitals.
Minority Men’s Health Barbershop Program
Get yourself a haircut and a free blood pressure check. This pilot program, sponsored by Memorial Hospital, the American Heart Association and Al’s House of Styles, offers free blood pressure checks to men at local barbershops. The program encourages men to play an active role in their heart health and offers referrals to health care services for those needing a primary care physician.
